Keep it simple: If you are handing out loot bags at the exit, try to find a prize that suits all ages. This saves you from standing at the door trying to match specific items to each child as they leave.
Personalized bags: On the other hand, if you love giving out personalized items, place them in closed bags and write the names in large, clear letters so everyone can find theirs quickly.
Always prepare extras: Even if you explicitly said "no siblings" on the invitation, someone will inevitably show up with a brother or sister. Having a few extra bags will save the day.
The return policy strategy: Buy your prizes at large retail chains with flexible return policies, like the toy departments at Walmart or Real Canadian Superstore. Avoid relying on dollar stores for items you might need to return—their return policies are notoriously strict, and even if they agree to take something back (usually with an unhappy look!), it will typically only be for store credit. Shopping at the big chains allows you to buy plenty of extras just in case, knowing you can easily return what you don't use and not get stuck with leftover stock for next year.
