How to serve snacks and manage the food table like a pro.

When planning a children’s birthday party, the food table can quickly become the most chaotic part of the event. After performing at hundreds of kids' parties in Metro Vancouver as Shay the Funny Clown, I’ve seen what works and what creates a massive mess.
Here are my top tips for managing party food like a pro:
Use Individual Portions: Prepare individual plates or snack bags for each child instead of serving buffet style. A buffet often leads to kids rushing the table all at once. Individual portions prevent the chaos and ensure fair amounts for everyone.
Pre-Show Snacks: If you hired an entertainer, place small bowls of dry snacks (like chips, pretzels, or popcorn) and drinks out for the kids to enjoy while they are arriving and waiting for the show to start. It keeps them happy and occupied!
Clear the Area for the Show: Once the entertainment begins, put the food away. You want the kids to keep their focus entirely on the comedy and magic, not on running back and forth for another chip.
Prep While They Laugh: The absolute best time to prepare the main food plates is during the show. By then, you know exactly how many kids actually arrived. This prevents unnecessary food waste and ensures everything is fresh the moment the show ends.
Keep it simple, keep it organized, and enjoy the party!
